Job Overview:
We are looking for a recently qualified Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our engineering team and assist with the mechanical build and assembly of bespoke automation machinery. The successful candidate will be involved in the assembly of custom automation equipment, working on mechanical, electromechanical and pneumatic systems. The role requires good practical mechanical ability, strong attention to detail and the ability to work from engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assembling machine frames, structures, guarding, conveyors, pneumatic systems and mechanical assemblies.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, pneumatic schematics, and technical documentation.
- Use a variety of hand tools, power tools and general workshop equipment during the build process.
- Measure, modify, and fit components to ensure correct assembly and operation.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical and automation engineers and the wider team.
- Adhere to project timelines and deadlines.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager.
Requirements:
- A relevant technical qualification such as Mechanical Fitting is desirable. We will also consider candidates who do not hold a formal mechanical qualification but have strong hands-on mechanical assembly experience and good mechanical aptitude.
- Hands-on experience in building and fitting mechanical assemblies.
- Competence in assembling pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and use practical problem-solving skills when resolving technical issues.
- Fluent in English (written & spoken) and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with team members and customers to convey technical information, provide assistance, and build positive relationships.
- Desirable skill but not required: Basic electrical knowledge or cross-disciplinary skills in mechanical/electrical fitting.
- Desirable skill but not required: Experience using manual workshop machinery such as lathes and milling machines.
