Job summary

Jigsaw - The National Centre for Youth Mental Health is recruiting clinicians to provide short‑term therapeutic supports to young people (12‑25) with mild to moderate mental health needs. You will work 1:1 with clients, collaborate with families, and operate within transdisciplinary teams at one of our 15 services nationwide.

This full‑time role involves initial assessments, evidence‑informed interventions, risk management, line management support, and ongoing CPD.

Qualifications

  • Essential Criteria: meet one of the listed professional registrations or Doctorate in Psychology.
  • Overseas qualifications require validation by Irish Department of Health at time of application.
  • Experience in health and social care and with young people is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake initial mental health assessments with young people aged 12–25.
  • Provide evidence-informed brief therapeutic interventions.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management plans.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and team meetings.
  • Engage in outreach work and maintain confidential records per policy.
  • Flexible working hours, including occasional evenings.

Education

Please Note

This is a full‑time, fixed term (12 month) contract, based in our Laois/Offaly service. A 12‑month panel will also be established from this recruitment campaign for any permanent and fixed‑term opportunities that may arise within our Laois/Offaly service.

This is a front facing role with daily interactions with Young People and members of the public. Access to home working is occasional and is offered based on responsibilities of the role and the needs of the Service and Young People.

Primary Responsibilities
  • To undertake initial mental health assessments with young people focusing on both strengths and difficulties.
  • To provide evidence informed brief, therapeutic interventions to young people.
  • To conduct risk assessments and implement risk management plans as appropriate.
  • To participate in clinical supervision and line management for support and guidance.
  • To work in accordance with Jigsaw Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • To participate in case management meetings, team meetings and other meetings as deemed necessary.
  • To liaise and consult with other professionals in supporting the mental health of young people attending Jigsaw.
  • To fulfill obligations as per the Children First Act 2015 and comply with the Jigsaw Child Protection and Welfare policy.
  • To maintain accurate, confidential records of practice using the Jigsaw Data System and to cooperate with reporting requirements as per the Jigsaw Record Keeping Policy.
  • To comply with responsibilities under the Data Protection Acts 1988, 2003 & 2018 (GDPR).
  • To share information with the Jigsaw Clinical Manager, Service Manager, Jigsaw team and other stakeholders, as appropriate in accordance with good practice.
  • To contribute to research, audit and evaluation of the service as required.
  • To maintain professional and personal boundaries.
  • To engage in outreach work as required.
  • To demonstrate an open and flexible attitude to work at all times.
  • To be flexible regarding working hours in line with the needs of the service, i.e. evenings.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required
Essential Criteria:

Qualifications & Registration/Accreditation – It is essential that you meet one of the below:

  • Doctorate or equivalent in Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychology and/or Chartered Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist through PSI. Candidates qualified overseas must provide evidence of validation by the Department of Health at the time of application.
  • Mental Health Nurse registered with An Bord Altranais.
  • Social Worker registered with CORU.
  • Occupational Therapist registered with CORU.
  • Psychotherapist accredited by the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) or the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working in health and social care, therapeutic or related organisational settings supporting people with their mental health needs.
  • Experience working therapeutically with young people aged 12-25 years.
  • Experience of applying core clinical/therapeutic skills; assessment, formulation, risk management, intervention and evaluation in mental health role/setting.
  • Experience of /training in delivering evidence informed mental health interventions, e.g. brief solution focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy etc.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to manage a busy workload.
  • Capacity to work co-operatively as part of a team.
  • Competent in MS office, Office 365, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Factors taken into account in determining an appropriate scale include the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the job.

The salary range for this role will be €40,550 - €62,688.
