Job description

About AIS

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

The Role

As an ICT Design Engineer you will be part of a global engineering team comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Control Engineers. AWS self‑performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects. Our ICT Design and Engineering Team is a new fast‑growing and leading‑edge engineering team that is rethinking the design for the critical communications pathways that connect the various pieces of hardware inside AWS’ data centers.

As part of this team you will work directly with engineers and managers across the company to develop connectivity solutions for the physical layer. You will work with the rest of the design team to provide pathway and cabling designs and specifications for construction and operation and finally with industry suppliers and manufacturers to develop product requirements and recommend new technologies.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic & copper plant designs and specifications.
  • Review and approval of ICT pathway, cable, and equipment submittals.
  • Identify and respond to risks and high‑priority issues rapidly and effectively.
  • Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time.
  • Travel 20+% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS' Data Centers.
  • Have fun and offer creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions.
A Day in the Life

As an ICT Design Engineer, you’ll design scalable connectivity solutions for our data center infrastructure. Your day involves collaborating with architects, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and control engineers across AWS to develop pathway and cabling designs. You’ll review technical submittals, coordinate with industry suppliers to evaluate new technologies, and travel to data center sites to review projects and work with onsite teams. You’ll prioritize activities that support data center capacity and safety while working on both local and global initiatives, solving complex infrastructure challenges that directly impact customers’ ability to access cloud services.

About The Team

We are a growing engineering team rethinking how critical communications infrastructure is designed within AWS data centers. Our team values curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning. We work across AWS to develop connectivity solutions for the physical layer, partnering with suppliers and manufacturers to advance infrastructure technology. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives drive innovation. You’ll have access to mentorship, knowledge‑sharing resources, and opportunities to develop into a well‑rounded professional. We support work‑life harmony and flexibility in how we work together.

  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • CNIDP (Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional) and/or BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) Certification.
  • Experience with ICT design in Mission Critical Environments.
  • Experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
