Qualifications

• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
• Experience in commissioning.
• Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering.

Job Overview

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who can perform design engineering activities for new build projects. You will become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint across the EMEA region.

They justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management while driving continuous advancements and improvements. You will have the ability to drive change and define the systems our customers rely on.

Key Responsibilities

• Be a leader within the group and within internal and external teams that support our data centres.
• Understand how underlying design decisions can impact building and campus level layouts.
• Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
• Participate in site selection reviews.
• Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data centre designs.
• Manage change, versioning and configuration control.
• Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
• Define and approve project scopes, RFPs and RFIs.
• Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
• Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems.
• Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Travel for site review and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches.
• Review and approve equipment submittals.
• Work with internal teams to troubleshoot problems and conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action (CA) for design‑related problems.
• Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases.
• Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
• Be positive and always offer creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions.

A Day in the Life

Engineers will be responsible for innovation, design and leading design consultants for new and existing AWS regions by delivering designs from concept to the permit and construction document set. You must be capable of defining critical equipment specifications and approving equipment submittals. Engineers will directly support construction and be part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover. Basic Qualifications

• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
• Experience in commissioning.
• Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License.
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
