Job summary

Optum is seeking a Principal Data Analyst in Ireland to analyse deal profitability by combining pricing models, forecasts and actual results, turning data into insights for better decisions.

You will apply SQL and Python to large datasets, investigate performance patterns and develop monitoring tools, shaping analytical approaches beyond routine reports. Hybrid work between Dublin/Letterkenny and home-based options are available.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience using SQL and Python to analyze complex data and solve business problems.
• Proven experience in data analytics, financial analysis, pricing, forecasting, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Demonstrated analytical judgment with ability to evaluate incomplete data, test hypotheses, and communicate evidence-based conclusions.
• Proven experience building analytical models and solutions that support business decision-making.
• Proven ability to communicate technical findings clearly across teams.

Responsibilities

• Use SQL and Python to connect large, complex datasets and compare what was expected with what actually happened.
• Investigate differences in rebate and network performance, identifying underlying patterns.
• Develop analytical models, visualisations and monitoring tools for risk and opportunities.
• Test past assumptions, explore trends in medicine use and pricing to inform forecasts.
• Build a deal performance tracking book from underwriting through in-year performance.
• Collaborate with analytics, underwriting and finance to validate results and translate findings into recommendations.
• Ensure results are well defined, documented and reusable.
