Job summary

The Recruitment Company is seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer for a Galway-based hybrid contract. This senior role focuses on SRE, platform design, AWS and Kubernetes, driving modern software delivery practices, GitOps, observability and AI-enabled engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; master's preferred.
• 9+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise-scale CI/CD platforms and distributed systems.
• 3+ years building and operating cloud-native solutions in AWS, including infrastructure modernization and migration.
• 3+ years software development experience in Python, Java or Node.js with a strong automation focus.
• 2+ years GitOps experience using Argo CD, Flux CD or equivalents.
• Strong Kubernetes/ containerised platforms experience with advanced administration.
• Experience designing and operating highly available distributed service-oriented architectures.
• Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and enabling self-service engineering.
• Strong automation skills with Python, Shell scripting and related tech; CI/CD and deployment automation expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead the adoption of GitOps and Platform Engineering to improve deployment reliability, scalability, governance and developer experience.
• Drive AI-enabled DevOps initiatives that reduce toil and accelerate engineering productivity through intelligent automation.
• Identify opportunities to leverage Agentic AI for incident management, deployment validation and production support within governance.
• Partner with development, engineering, architecture, infrastructure and security teams to establish next-gen DevOps capabilities (GitOps, AIOps, AI-driven operations).
• Support the design, implementation and adoption of modern DevOps, SRE, GitOps and AI-powered practices.
• Accelerate software delivery while improving reliability through predictive insights, intelligent automation and autonomous operations.
• Support development squads with modern DevOps practices, cloud adoption and engineering excellence.
• Design, implement and support enterprise-scale CI/CD platforms and distributed systems.
• Build and operate cloud-native solutions in AWS, including infrastructure modernization and migration.
• Build and operate Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and enable self-service engineering.
• Deliver high-quality, secure and cost-effective solutions meeting functional/non-functional requirements.
• Define and execute enterprise-grade reliability and observability strategies for high availability.
• Leverage data to drive efficiency and reduce complexity; promote platform consistency and operational excellence.
• Lead troubleshooting across applications, infrastructure, networks and cloud platforms.
• Mentor engineers in reliability engineering, observability, automation and cloud-native best practices.
• Apply automation, observability, resilience testing and chaos engineering to production environments.
• Participation in on-call rotation may be required.
