Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks an AI/ML Engineer to build and run generative AI capabilities for healthcare products. You will manage end-to-end ML lifecycles, from data prep to model deployment, in a hybrid work model with Dublin/Letterkenny offices and home-based setup.

You will collaborate with product, security, and governance teams to deliver responsible AI solutions and scalable ML systems across enterprise data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
• Experience deploying ML/AI solutions into production in public clouds.
• Hands-on Generative AI including prompts, RAG, embeddings, and orchestration.
• Strong grounding in classical ML: feature engineering, training, tuning, validation.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL with ML/data libraries.
• Experience with MLOps, automated pipelines, and production monitoring.
• Solid software engineering practices: testing, version control, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy generative AI solutions grounded in healthcare data.
• Develop and productionize classical ML models—feature engineering, training, tuning.
• Create evaluation harnesses, test sets and metrics for model quality and latency.
• Implement MLOps: experiment tracking, pipelines, CI/CD, monitoring for drift.
• Collaborate with data engineering to shape datasets, semantic layers, indexes.
• Partner with product, security, governance to translate use cases into solutions.
• Apply responsible AI practices including privacy, bias assessment and human-in-the-loop.
