Job summary

JHS Events Limited T/A Cloughjordan House is seeking a Horticultural Operative to cultivate and maintain vegetables, herbs, flowers and other crops in the estate's walled gardens, supporting kitchen and events with fresh produce.

The role covers soil preparation, planting, crop care, harvesting, and garden maintenance while ensuring safe, efficient day-to-day garden operations. This is a full-time, permanent position on a 24-month contract with a salary of €33,696 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience in horticulture or gardening roles.
• Ability to operate gardening tools safely.
• Attention to crop quality and garden safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist with soil preparation, planting, and crop establishment.
• Cultivate and maintain vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other crops.
• Carry out propagation, watering, weeding, feeding, and general crop care activities.
• Monitor plant health and report pest, disease, or crop quality issues.
• Harvest produce and prepare for use by kitchens and events.
• Assist with composting and sustainable gardening practices.
• Maintain growing areas, garden beds, pathways, and garden infrastructure.
• Operate gardening tools and equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
• Follow company procedures and health and safety guidelines.

Main Function: The main function of the role is to cultivate and maintain vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other crops within the walled gardens, ensuring high standards of crop production and garden presentation. The role supports the harvesting and preparation of fresh produce for use in the company's kitchens and events while assisting with the efficient day-to-day operation of the gardens.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with soil preparation, planting, and crop establishment.
• Cultivate and maintain vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other crops.
• Carry out propagation, watering, weeding, feeding, and general crop care activities.
• Monitor plant health and report any pest, disease, or crop quality issues.
• Harvest produce at the appropriate stage and prepare it for use by the company's kitchens and events.
• Assist with composting and sustainable gardening practices.
