Job summary

Optum in Ireland is seeking an HL7 Integration Specialist - EHR Systems to join the Epic integration team. You will design, build, test, and maintain HL7, FHIR, API and file-based interfaces across Epic EHR, ERP, HIEs, cloud and SaaS environments.

The role combines hands-on technical delivery with leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and on-call rotation responsibilities. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are available; the position offers a hybrid work model with a mix of

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
• Epic Bridges certification.
• Experience with HL7 (HL7 FHIR, CDA, Web Services, v2).
• Experience with at least one integration engine (e.g., InterSystems, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Mirth, BizTalk, Corepoint, IBM IIB, WebSphere).
• Familiarity with Epic applications or other Clinical EMR.
• Knowledge of software testing (unit/integration).
• Ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Willingness for 24x7 on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, document Epic integrations and procedures.
• Balance hands-on delivery with team leadership.
• Act as escalation point for complex issues.
• Design and maintain HL7, FHIR, API integrations across Epic EHR and systems.
• Translate requirements into technical designs.
• Lead Epic EMR implementations, data conversions, upgrades.
• Review and validate functionality during upgrades.
• Mentor integration team members and support hiring.
• Plan resource needs and on-call coverage with leadership.
• Advise on integration strategy and standards.
