Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum Ireland unit is seeking an experienced HL7 Integration Specialist - EHR Systems to join the Epic and health data integration team. You will design, build, test, and maintain HL7, FHIR, API, and file-based interfaces across Epic EHR, ERP platforms, and registries, translating business requirements into technical designs.

You will lead and mentor a growing integration team, support on-call rotation, and collaborate with vendors and end users to shape integration strategy

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Certifications with Epic Bridges application.
• Proven experience with HL7 or HL7 FHIR, HL7 CDA, Web Services and HL7 v2.
• Proven experience with development of interfaces on integration/interoperability engines such as InterSystems, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Mirth Connect, BizTalk, Corepoint, Qvera, IBM Integration Bus, WebSphere.
• Familiarity with Epic applications or other Clinical EMR systems.
• Understanding of software testing approaches (unit/integration testing).
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and document HL7, FHIR, API, and file-based integrations across Epic EHR and other systems.
• Lead and mentor the integration team, balancing hands-on work with team leadership.
• Serve as escalation point for complex integration issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Architect and implement interfaces across Epic/ERP systems, HIEs, cloud and SaaS vendors.
• Translate business requirements into technical designs and integration specs.
• Support Epic EMR implementations, including interface development and data conversion.
• Guide on upgrades and post-go-live support; validate new functionality.
• Partner with leadership on resource planning, on-call coverage, and career development.
