Job summary

Western Alzheimers-West of Ireland Alzheimer Foundation in Ballindine, Co Mayo is seeking five permanent full-time Healthcare Assistants to deliver high-quality care at Marian House respite Home.

You will work 39 hours per week, day and night shifts, supporting residents with daily living, mobility, meals and dignity, under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

Qualifications

• Essential: Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
• Desirable: FETAC / QQI Level 5 - Healthcare Assistant.
• Experience: Essential - previous experience with older people.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering high standard of holistic care, promoting dignity and rights of residents.
• Carry out tasks involving direct care and activities of daily living under supervision (washing, toileting, dressing, dining).
• Act as named carer for residents and promote independence.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of living areas; observe care plans and report changes.
• Assist in end-of-life care and respond promptly to call bells.

Purpose of the post:To assist in the provision and delivery of care and ancillary services at the highest level thus ensuring the welfare of residents and acknowledging their rights to dignity and privacy.

Job Description: Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times To carry out all assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Person in Charge e.g. washing, toileting , dressing, undressing, dining and other aspects of daily living. Act as the named carer for specific residents as allocated by the Person in Charge. Respect privacy and dignity of all residents and promote their independence Ensure all residents living areas and bedrooms are left neat and presentable for residents and visitors of Marian House. Contribute to the moving and treatment of residents to maximise physical comfort, utilising manual handling techniques. Provide particular attention to residents who have limited mobility. Observe care plans and alert Nurses regarding any changes in the physical and mental state of the residents Report immediately any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health, safety and welfare of residents or visitors. Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for the residents, staff and visitors of Marian House. Communication with all residents and their family/friends. Ensure that all are made feel welcome and offered refreshments. Have a knowledge of all residents by name. Assist in the delivery of end of life care. Answer the call bell promptly. Contribute to the serving of resident meals, assisting residents to eat and drink as necessary. Escort residents when needed to travel internally and externally. Comply with all policies and procedures relevant to job role including those that incorporate health and safety, infection control and waste disposal. Be willing to achieve FETAC level 5 - Healthcare Assistant and undertake appointed on-going training.. Be aware of the confidential nature of the work and in particular, the right of residents to confidentiality. To this end you will not discuss workings of Western Alzheimer’s or its residents with any third party outside of the organisation.
