Job summary

Jobtailor in Cork, Ireland, seeks an experienced engineering leader to design and deploy advanced algorithms for power system monitoring and grid analytics. The role focuses on signal processing, machine learning on real-world sensor data, and edge-to-cloud deployment on constrained platforms.

You will lead end-to-end development from modelling to production deployment, influence product strategy, and mentor a high-performing engineering team, with opportunities for broader leadership roles.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field (equivalent experience accepted).
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience post-PhD with development and deployment of practical algorithms in production systems.
  • Proven leadership in technical leadership and management.
  • Strong communication with a track record of technical talks and influence.
  • Innovation demonstrated by patents and/or publications.
  • Strong background in Power Systems Engineering (modeling grid assets).
  • Deep expertise in Signal Processing and Machine Learning with real-world data.
  • Experience deploying solutions across Edge and Cloud architectures, including constrained/embedded environments.
  • Strong programming and modeling experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or embedded environments).
  • Experience working with sensor data and physical system modeling (digital twins).

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive design and development of advanced algorithms for power system monitoring and grid analytics.
  • Develop signal processing and machine learning techniques to extract insights from real-world sensor data.
  • Architect and deploy solutions across the Edge-to-Cloud stack, including constrained embedded platforms.
  • Lead end-to-end solution development from modelling and simulation through validation to production deployment.
  • Influence product and technology strategy through deep domain expertise and technical leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate innovations into scalable products.
  • Engage with grid equipment OEMs, utilities and partners to address real-world challenges.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to building a high-performance team with leadership growth opportunities.

  • Develop signal processing and machine learning techniques to extract actionable insights from real‑world sensor data.
  • Architect and deploy solutions across the Edge-to‑Cloud stack, including implementation on resource‑constrained and embedded platforms
  • Lead end‑to‑end solution development, from modelling and simulation through to validation and production deployment.
  • Influence product and technology strategy through deep domain expertise and technical leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware, firmware, data, applications) to translate innovations into scalable products.
  • Engage with grid equipment OEMs, utilities, industry partners, and stakeholders to ensure solutions address real‑world challenges.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to building a high‑performance team, with opportunity to grow into broader leadership roles.
Requirements
  • A Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Power Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field (equivalent experience will be accepted)
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience post-PhD (12 years post bachelors degree) with development and deployment experience of practical algorithms in production systems
  • Leadership skills, as proven by a record of increasing responsibility in technical leadership and management
  • Communication skills, as proven by a record of technical talks and influence in a technical field
  • Innovation skills, as proven by a record of patents and/or technical publications demonstrating novelty and the ability to think creatively.
  • Strong background in Power Systems Engineering, including modelling of grid assets (e.g., transformers, distribution systems)
  • Deep expertise in Signal Processing and Machine Learning, with proven application to real‑world data
  • Experience deploying solutions across Edge and Cloud architectures, particularly in constrained or embedded environments
  • Strong programming and modelling experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or embedded environments)
  • Experience working with sensor data and physical system modelling (digital twins)
