Job description

Are you an early-career Mechanical Engineer with at least two years’ relevant experience and an interest in developing specialist expertise in the automotive sector?

Eden Recruitment is partnering with a prominent public-sector organisation to recruit a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. Previous automotive experience is not essential—the successful candidate will receive training in vehicle approval standards, regulatory requirements and the organisation’s specialist processes. This is a one-year contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded graduate to build a long-term career in a highly specialised field while contributing to vehicle standards, regulatory compliance and public safety in Ireland.

Working alongside senior automotive engineers, you will learn to assess technical applications, evaluate compliance and support the development of national approval schemes covering:

  • Passenger vehicles
  • Commercial and goods vehicles
  • Motorcycles, three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing EU, UNECE and national product approval applications
  • Assessing technical documentation against applicable requirements
  • Supporting Conformity of Production assessments
  • Assisting in the development of national vehicle approval schemes
  • Liaising with manufacturers, technical services, vehicle body builders and test centres
  • Supporting assessments of Approved Vehicle Body Builders
  • Participating in workshop assessments relating to tachographs, vehicle plating and road-speed limiters
  • Developing procedures and identifying opportunities to improve divisional processes
What you’ll bring
  • An honours bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • At least two years’ relevant or transferable experience
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a specialist team
  • A genuine interest in developing expertise in automotive standards and regulation

Relevant experience could have been gained in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, production, quality assurance, testing, maintenance, design, technical compliance or another related environment.

Experience of automotive engineering or EU/UNECE vehicle requirements would be advantageous but is not required, as comprehensive training will be provided.

This is an unusual opportunity to take your existing mechanical engineering experience in a new direction and develop valuable expertise within a specialist, standards-led environment.
