Job summary

Amber Petroleum is recruiting a Fresh Food Trainer to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence of fresh food teams across the estate, delivering engaging training to ensure consistent food quality and safety standards.

You will conduct practical hands-on training, develop SOPs, assess competency, and support store openings and fresh food launches, driving operational excellence and merchandising standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in fresh food retail, deli, bakery, convenience, or foodservice.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, HACCP and food preparation techniques.
  • Experience delivering training or coaching teams.
  • Knowledge of Allergen legislation, Fresh Food retail operations, merchandising and display standards.
  • Experienced in stock rotation and waste management, labour planning.

Amber Petroleum are now recruiting for a Fresh Food Trainer.


Role Overview

The Fresh Food Trainer is responsible for developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of fresh food teams across the estate. The role focuses on delivering engaging training, ensuring consistent food quality and safety standards, improving operational performance, and supporting the successful implementation of fresh food initiatives and new developments.


Key Responsibilities

Training & Development


  • Deliver structured induction training for all new fresh food team members.

  • Conduct practical, hands‑on training in food preparation, presentation, merchandising, and customer service.

  • Develop and maintain training materials, manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Assess employee competency and provide coaching to improve performance.

  • Support managers in identifying training needs and creating development plans.


Food Safety Standards & Compliance


  • Ensure all stores comply with food safety legislation, HACCP requirements, and company food standards.

  • Train teams on allergen management, food hygiene, temperature control, and safe food handling.

  • Conduct compliance audits and provide action plans where improvements are required.

  • Promote best practice in food quality, freshness, waste management, and cleanliness.


Operational Excellence


  • Support new store openings, refurbishments, and fresh food launches.

  • Standardise food preparation methods across all locations.

  • Improve productivity through effective training and operational coaching.

  • Monitor food quality and presentation standards.

  • Identify opportunities to increase sales through merchandising and product knowledge.


Coaching & Support


  • Provide one-to-one coaching for Store Managers, Deli Managers, and Fresh Food Supervisors.

  • Assist underperforming stores with structured improvement programmes.

  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and accountability.


Performance Monitoring


  • Measure training effectiveness using key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Report on compliance, audit results, training attendance, and operational improvements.

  • Recommend further development opportunities based on store needs.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
