Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland in Galway seeks a Mechanical Technician to join our team on-site. You will carry out daily mechanical maintenance and work with the onsite team on reactive and planned tasks, while upholding health and safety standards.

You will plan improvements and install/maintain heating, drainage, and water systems across commercial and residential sites. The role requires at least 5 years of residential plumbing experience, proficiency with building plans, and strong problem-solving

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years residential plumbing experience.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations and practices.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints and M&E plans.
• Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron and copper piping.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily mechanical maintenance on site.
• Work with the onsite team on reactive and planned works.
• Adhere to company health and safety culture and regulations.
• Coordinate and plan work with the onsite building and estates teams.
• Plan and implement mechanical improvements with the onsite team.
• Install and maintain heating systems, drainage and water supplies; service boilers and radiators.
• Install, repair and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures.
• Collaborate with general contractors, electricians and other construction professionals.
• Follow building plans and blueprints and respond to plumbing emergencies.
• Keep records of time spent, work description and materials used.

• Collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals.
• Follow building plans and blueprints.
• Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
• Perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems.
• Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used.

What do you bring to the role?

• Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and safety practices.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints and rough drawings.
• Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper.
• Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Minimum 5 years on the job residential plumbing experience.
• Experience with plex pipe and crimp fittings.
• Excellent communication skills.
• The ability to read drawings and apply M&E plans.
• DGS qualification a bonus.
