Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland in Cork is seeking a Senior Site Engineer to lead on-site engineering activities and coordinate with subcontractors and consultants. You will review construction drawings, verify setting-out, and manage QA/QC processes to keep the project on schedule.

Contribute to safety leadership, progress reporting, and technical problem-solving while supporting the Project Manager in delivery and client liaison on a major Cork site.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 5-8 years' experience in civil engineering or construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of Irish construction regulations and industry standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Total Stations, GPS surveying equipment, and Microsoft Office.
• Full driving licence.

Key duties

• Site supervision and engineering coordination.


• Setting-out verification and quality control.


• Programme monitoring and reporting.


• Management of subcontractors and suppliers.


• Technical problem-solving and design coordination.


• Health and safety leadership.


• Client and stakeholder liaison.


• Preparation of engineering reports and documentation.

Making Possible

• Lead site engineering activities and provide technical guidance to engineers and supervisors.


• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.


• Ensure all setting-out works are completed accurately and in accordance with design requirements.


• Coordinate design information and resolve technical queries with consultants and designers.


• Oversee temporary works requirements and ensure appropriate approvals are in place.


• Monitor construction methodologies and propose improvements for efficiency and productivity.


• Assist the site Agent / Project Manager in the planning and delivery of construction works.


• Coordinate subcontractors and site teams to achieve programme milestones.


• Monitor daily progress and productivity against project schedules.


• Identify and mitigate construction risks and technical challenges.


• Ensure materials and resources are available to maintain planned progress.


• Promote a strong safety culture across the site.


• Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.


• Assist in the preparation and review of Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).


• Ensure environmental controls and sustainability requirements are implemented.


• Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances as required.


• Ensure inspection and test plans (ITPs) are followed.


• Monitor workmanship standards and rectify quality issues promptly.


• Maintain accurate site records, test results, and quality documentation.


• Support project handover and commissioning activities.


• Assist in the measurement and valuation of completed works.


• Provide technical input for variations and change management.


• Monitor resource utilisation and identify opportunities for cost savings.


• Support commercial teams with progress reporting and claims preparation.


• Manage and mentor Site Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and Junior Engineers.

What do you bring to the role?

Essential

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline.


• Minimum 5-8 years' experience in civil engineering or construction projects.


• Strong knowledge of Irish construction regulations and industry standards.


• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Total Stations, GPS surveying equipment, and Microsoft Office.


• Full driving licence.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership with Engineers Ireland.


• Safe Pass.


• Manual Handling Certification.


• Temporary Works Coordinator training.


• First Aid certification.
