Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment is assisting an Ireland-based business to recruit a Financial Accountant on a 12-month maternity cover basis. The role is largely remote after an initial handover, with ownership of the day-to-day accounting functions.

The successful candidate will manage the general ledger, prepare monthly management accounts, and handle VAT returns via ROS, while supporting year-end audits and maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Approximately 2–4 years relevant accounting experience.
• Practical experience preparing Irish VAT returns and working with ROS.
• Ability to self‑manage, work autonomously and deliver to agreed timelines.
• Strong communication skills with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
• Adaptable, detail‑focused and comfortable working in a small, agile business.

Responsibilities

• Manage the general ledger and daily financial accounting activities.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, reconciliations and financial reports.
• Prepare and submit Irish VAT returns and other required filings through ROS.
• Support year-end accounts, audits and liaison with external advisers.
• Maintain accurate financial records and strong internal controls.
• Provide clear updates on upcoming deadlines, priorities and any issues or risks.
