About the Role

We are seeking a Qualified Accountant with at least 3 years’ accounting experience to join the finance team of an established multinational retail business.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will take ownership of key areas of the monthly management accounts process, deliver accurate financial reporting and provide analysis that helps the business understand and improve performance.

This opportunity suits a commercially minded accountant who enjoys taking responsibility, working with colleagues across the business and improving financial processes within a busy, multi-site environment.

Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts and Month-End Reporting
  • Take ownership of key elements of the month-end close, ensuring accurate reporting within agreed deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules for review by the Financial Controller.
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding items.
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete and supported by appropriate documentation.
Financial Analysis and Business Support
  • Analyse monthly profit and loss results against budget and explain significant variances.
  • Identify trends in sales, costs and margins, highlighting areas requiring further investigation or action.
  • Prepare departmental and store-level financial reports following approval of monthly results.
  • Work with Department Heads and Regional Managers to help them understand financial performance and manage expenditure.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting through the preparation of financial analysis and supporting schedules.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to support commercial and operational decisions.
Property Accounting and Fixed Assets
  • Oversee the accounting for property-related costs, ensuring invoices and payments are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare and review property payment schedules and reconcile invoices against payments.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring additions, disposals and depreciation are correctly accounted for.
  • Ensure property and fixed asset balances are supported by accurate reconciliations and records.
Financial Controls and Process Improvement
  • Maintain effective financial controls and ensure compliance with internal accounting procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reporting, reconciliations and month-end processes.
  • Support year-end reporting and audit preparation, providing schedules and responding to queries.
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller on finance projects and wider business initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior finance colleagues where required.
About You
  • Fully qualified accountant with a recognised qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of management accounts, month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Confident analysing financial information and explaining results to colleagues outside finance.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using accounting or ERP systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to resolving issues and improving processes.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships across departments.
  • Experience within retail, a multinational organisation or a multi-site business would be advantageous.
