Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Finance Technology Lead to shape the future of finance through digital innovation, automation and AI. You will drive a technology roadmap across Finance, Technology and the wider business, delivering responsible AI solutions and strong governance in a large, complex organisation.

The role requires strategic vision, hands-on delivery and collaboration with senior stakeholders to unlock value and ensure safety and compliance while achieving lasting impact.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading Finance technology transformations, including AI and automation implementations.
• Experience at finance-technology/business-change intersection translating strategy into scalable outcomes.
• Strong influence with senior stakeholders and driving organizational adoption of new technologies.
• Deep understanding of Finance controls, governance, data management and risk.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with significant senior Finance leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Base Location:You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - Glasgow, Perth or Dublin

Salary:circa.£100,000 (UK) / circa.€135,000 (ROI) + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We're looking for an experienced and strategic Finance Technology Lead to shape the future of Finance through digital innovation, automation and AI.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who has successfully led and delivered complex Finance technology transformation programmes and can bring both strategic vision and hands‑on delivery expertise. You'll work in close partnership across Finance, Technology and the wider business to create and deliver a technology roadmap that enhances decision‑making, strengthens controls, improves efficiency and unlocks new opportunities through responsible AI and automation.

You will

• Shape and lead the development and delivery of Finance's technology, automation and AI strategy, creating a clear roadmap that supports business objectives and delivers meaningful and measurable value.
• Champion and enable the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and intelligent automation, identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve insight and enhance decision‑making across Finance.
• Build trusted, inclusive and collaborative partnerships across Finance, Technology and business teams, creating alignment, fostering connection and bringing people together to shape solutions and deliver meaningful change.
• Partnering with internal delivery capability, lead a portfolio of digital transformation initiatives from concept to implementation, ensuring strong governance, responsible innovation, risk management and benefits realisation.
• Foster a culture of curiosity, learning and continuous improvement, coaching, supporting and empowering teams to embrace new technologies whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, control and compliance.

You have

• A proven track record of leading and delivering Finance technology transformation programmes, including the successful implementation of AI, automation, advanced analytics or digital finance solutions.
• Strong and practical experience operating at the intersection of Finance, Technology and business change, with the ability to translate strategic ambitions into practical, scalable outcomes.
• Demonstrable success influencing senior stakeholders, building trusted relationships, creating shared understanding and leading organisational adoption of new technologies and ways of working.
• A deep understanding of Finance controls, governance, data management and risk, ensuring technology-enabled change is delivered responsibly, safely and with lasting business impact.
• A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) together with significant senior Finance leadership experience within a large, complex organisation.
