Berkley Group in Ireland is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its established finance team. You will be responsible for management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and commercial analysis.

Working with an established accounts team, you will oversee month-end close, VAT filings, and ensure accuracy of financial reporting while providing insights to support management decisions.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA).
  • Post-qualification experience in a senior accounting/finance role.
  • Experience with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
  • Experience with project costing, WIP reporting or profitability analysis is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, balance sheet management and month-end processes.
  • Experience with Sage 200 or similar ERP system is desirable.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modelling abilities.
  • Commercial mindset with ability to translate data into business insights.
  • Strong communication skills with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, analyses).
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes for accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and present financial analysis, management reports and KPI reporting.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting with stakeholders to develop plans.
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital; provide forward-looking analysis.
  • Oversee project costing, WIP, revenue and profitability analysis.
  • Analyze margin and variances; provide commercial recommendations.
  • Maintain accounts receivable, accounts payable and credit control.
  • Review balance sheet, bank and control account reconciliations; resolve variances.
  • Oversee VAT and statutory filings; ensure compliance.
  • Maintain integrity of accounting systems and reporting (Sage 200).
  • Act as point of contact for external auditors and lenders.
  • Strengthen financial controls and accounting policies; improve processes.

Job description

A growing company is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Accountant to join its established finance team.

Permanent Role | Co. Tipperary

This is a senior position within the finance function, offering responsibility for management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, financial controls, and commercial analysis.

Working alongside an established accounts team, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting while providing meaningful financial insights to support management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of the preparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and supporting financial analysis.
  • Lead key aspects of the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present financial analysis, management reports and KPI reporting, highlighting key trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, working with management and operational stakeholders to develop accurate financial plans.
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital and provide forward-looking analysis to support financial planning.
  • Oversee project costing, work in progress (WIP), revenue and contract profitability, ensuring management has clear visibility of financial performance.
  • Analyse project and business performance, including margin and variance analysis, and provide commercially focused recommendations to management.
  • Maintain oversight of accounts receivable, accounts payable and credit control, working with the wider accounts team to ensure appropriate financial controls and processes are maintained.
  • Review key balance sheet, bank and control account reconciliations, investigating and resolving material variances where required.
  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of VAT and other statutory financial filings.
  • Maintain the integrity of the company's accounting and financial reporting systems, including Sage 200.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, accountants, financial institutions and other external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and strengthen the company's financial controls, accounting policies and reporting procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate financial processes, controls and management reporting.
  • Partner with colleagues across the business, providing financial guidance and commercial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Support senior management with ad-hoc financial analysis and business initiatives as required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, statutory requirements and company policies.
About You
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA).
  • Strong post-qualification experience within a Senior Accountant, Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Financial Controller environment.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing and taking ownership of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
  • Experience with project costing, WIP reporting, contract accounting or profitability analysis is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, balance sheet management and month-end/year-end processes.
  • Experience with Sage 200 or a comparable ERP/accounting system is desirable.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong financial modelling/analytical capabilities.
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, accurate and capable of taking ownership of key financial processes.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy within a growing business.
