Job summary

Enet, Ireland’s largest open access network provider, is seeking a Field Engineer to perform reactive maintenance across telecoms and network infrastructure in the Munster region. You will manage fault tickets, work with logistics and back-office teams, and ensure service issues are resolved efficiently with strong customer focus.

Responsibilities include fault analysis, site surveys, on-site diagnostics, working at height, and collaboration with engineering teams to meet SLAs and KPIs.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Telecommunications Field Engineer.
  • Third level qualification in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to work at height on telecoms infrastructure and resolve reactive faults.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile network equipment and awareness of network diagrams.

Job description

Enet is Ireland’s largest, open access network provider, building and operating the largest alternative wholesale telecoms network in Ireland.

The primary responsibility of the Field Engineer is to carry out reactive maintenance across telecommunications and network infrastructure, managing and resolving fault tickets assigned to the field team in a timely and efficient manner.

This role will serve the Munster region and the successful candidate will take ownership of all activities associated with fault resolution, working closely with logistics, field-based colleagues, and back-office support teams to ensure service issues are addressed effectively. A strong customer focus is essential, with a commitment to delivering high levels of service at all times.

The role involves a combination of technical and administrative responsibilities, including analysing fault and performance data to determine appropriate actions, completing site access documentation, utilising workforce management systems to manage work allocation, liaising with internal support teams, responding to customer queries, and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

The Field Engineer will be responsible for managing their workload efficiently, driving issues through to resolution, and contributing to the achievement of individual and team objectives. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative approach when working with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take end-to-end ownership of all assigned field activities, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
  • Work at height on telecommunications infrastructure, resolving reactive faults and carrying out project and upgrade activities as required.
  • Collaborate closely with logistics, field-based colleagues, back-office support teams, and stakeholders to meet KPIs, reduce repair times, improve network reliability, and enhance service delivery.
  • Actively monitor and manage fault tickets, taking ownership of issues within your assigned area and providing timely updates through to successful resolution.
  • Perform detailed site surveys and assessments to support network deployments, upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Diagnose and resolve on-site hardware, transmission, and network faults using appropriate tools, testing equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy and initiative while recognising when escalation or collaboration is required.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance activities and implement network and infrastructure upgrades as required.
  • Work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure service delivery milestones and project deadlines are achieved.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, service quality, and field processes.
  • Manage and maintain vehicle stock and local inventory, coordinating with internal logistics teams to ensure availability of required parts and equipment.
  • Be based within a designated geographical area, with flexibility to travel nationally as business and operational requirements dictate.
  • Act as Clerk of Works for network and infrastructure installations, ensuring build quality, compliance, and adherence to relevant standards.
  • Participate in an on-call support rota, responding to network incidents and service-affecting issues as required.
  • Conduct routine on-site health checks, proactively identifying, reporting, and addressing potential risks or Perform work at height as a certified climber, or be willing to undertake the necessary training and certification, as the role involves working on elevated telecommunications infrastructure.
Required Skills/ Expertise
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Telecommunications Field Engineer.
  • Third level qualification in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Work at height on Telecoms tower infrastructure resolving reactive faults and carrying out ad hoc project work.
  • Hands-on experience with Mobile Network equipment, including base stations, microwave radio and DC systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical diagrams, network schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong understanding of mobile network and telecommunications systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and adapt quickly to dynamic situations.
  • Strong team player who collaborates well in cross-functional environments.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory standards and environmental practices.
  • Valid clean driver’s license and flexibility to travel frequently.
