Job summary

Sodexo in Bantry, West Cork, is recruiting a Maintenance Operative to support school sites during evening hours, primarily based in Bantry. The role focuses on safety, security and smooth facilities operation during sports events and activities.

The ideal candidate has practical DIY skills, is reliable and flexible, and can work independently with on-site supervision. Training in Fire Warden and First Aid is provided or expected to be completed.

Qualifications

• Evening and weekend availability during term time.
• Practical DIY or maintenance skills.
• Ability to work independently and calmly in emergencies.
• Good communication skills.
• Fire Warden and First Aid certification or willingness to train.
• Reliable and responsible with a strong sense of duty.

Responsibilities

• Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (typically 6:30pm–8:30pm on weekdays).
• Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments (including potential 12-hour shifts on Saturdays or Sundays).
• Act as Fire Warden (training/certification required).
• Provide basic First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency
• Support the safe operation of the building, including training in HVAC systems
• Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required
• Ensure the premises remain secure, safe and well maintained
• Report any incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly
• There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools and potentially in university settings in Cork City.

Maintenance Operative

We are currently recruiting a reliable and proactive Maintenance Operative to support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. This is a key onsite role during evening hours, ensuring the safety, security and smooth running of school facilities, particularly during sports events and activities.

This role is ideal for a responsible, flexible individual with good practical/DIY skills who enjoys working independently and being a trusted presence onsite.

What you’ll do

What you’ll bring

• Previous experience as a caretaker, handy person, facilities assistant or fire warden (desirable but not essential)

• Fire Warden and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training)
