Job summary

Sodexo Ireland is seeking a Maintenance Operative to support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. The role is evening-focused with optional weekends, and travel to sites is paid.

You’ll be the onsite contact during evenings, supervise events, and may train as a Fire Warden with First Aid duties. The position offers €15.59 per hour and opportunities across the West Cork region.

Responsibilities

• Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (6:30pm–8:30pm on weekdays).
• Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments.
• Act as a Fire Warden (training/certification required).
• Provide basic First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency.
• Support the safe operation of the building, including training in HVAC systems.
• Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required.
• Ensure the premises remain secure, safe and well maintained.
• Report any incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
• There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools.

Maintenance OperativeWe are currently recruiting a reliable and proactive Maintenance Operative to support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. This is a key onsite role during evening hours, ensuring the safety, security and smooth running of school facilities, particularly during sports events and activities.

What you will do:

• Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (typically 6:30pm–8:30pm on weekdays)
• Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments (including potential 12-hour shifts on Saturdays or Sundays)
• Act as a Fire Warden (training/certification required)
• Provide basic First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency
• Support the safe operation of the building, including training in HVAC systems
• Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required
• Ensure the premises remain secure, safe and well maintained
• Report any incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly
• There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools (particularly if you have access to a car) and potentially in university settings in Cork City

What you will bring:

• A strong sense of responsibility and reliability
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during school term time
• Practical DIY or maintenance skills
• Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergencies
• Good communication skills
• Previous experience as a caretaker, handy person, facilities assistant or fire warden (desirable but not essential)
• Fire Warden and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training)
