Job summary

Vickerstock in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our tendering team, working with the Bid Manager to deliver accurate, competitive cost estimates for civil engineering and utilities projects nationwide.

You will review drawings, specifications and BOQs, obtain subcontractor quotations, maintain cost information through the tender process and contribute to risk analysis and value engineering to secure winning bids.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Estimator roles within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of tendering processes for civil projects.
  • Experience estimating civil infrastructure, utilities, water or wastewater projects.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
  • Experience engaging with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Bid Manager to ensure timely delivery of tenders.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering and utilities projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Obtain and assess competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain cost information throughout the tender process.
  • Participate in risk analysis, value engineering and tender review meetings.
  • Support pre-contract handovers with cost information to the project team.
  • Keep up-to-date with market rates, material costs and subcontractor pricing.

The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimator to join one of Ireland's leading civil engineering companies, delivering major public realm and water & wastewater infrastructure projects nationwide.
As an Estimator, you will play a key role within the tendering team, working closely with the Bid Manager to prepare accurate, competitive and commercially robust estimates for a diverse range of civil engineering and utilities projects.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the Bid Manager to ensure the effective and timely delivery of tenders.
  • Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering and utilities projects, including water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Reviewing and analysing drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and project requirements.
  • Obtaining and assessing competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Developing and maintaining accurate cost information throughout the tender process.
  • Participating in risk analysis, value engineering and tender review meetings.
  • Identifying potential commercial and delivery risks within tender opportunities.
  • Supporting pre-contract handovers and providing cost information to the project delivery team.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market rates, material costs, subcontractor pricing and developments within the civil engineering sector.
  • Working collaboratively with project managers, engineers, procurement and commercial teams.
  • Supporting the Bid Manager with departmental improvements, processes and initiatives.
  • Contributing to the development of winning tender strategies and supporting wider business growth.

What you will need:

  • Proven experience working in an Estimator role within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering project delivery and tendering processes.
  • Experience estimating civil infrastructure, utilities, water or wastewater projects would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Experience engaging with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain and assess competitive pricing.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to work.
  • Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline would be advantageous.
