Job summary

Vickerstock is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its civil engineering tendering team in Castlebar. The successful candidate will prepare accurate cost estimates for major water, wastewater and public realm projects, liaising with Bid Managers and procurement to secure competitive bids.

The role requires proven estimator experience in civil infrastructure, strong drawing/specification interpretation, and a proactive, cost-conscious mindset to support winning tenders across nationwide projects.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Estimator/Estimator within civil engineering or infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering project delivery and tendering processes.
• Experience estimating civil infrastructure, utilities, water or wastewater projects.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Experience engaging with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain and assess competitive pricing.
• Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills.
• Collaborative, deadline-driven approach to work.

Responsibilities

• Working with the Bid Manager to ensure effective and timely tender delivery.

• Obtaining and assessing competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Developing and maintaining accurate cost information throughout the tender process.
• Participating in risk analysis, value engineering and tender reviews.
• Identifying potential commercial and delivery risks within tender opportunities.
• Supporting pre-contract handovers with cost information to delivery teams.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market rates and material costs.

You will be responsible for:

• Working closely with the Bid Manager to ensure the effective and timely delivery of tenders.

• Identifying potential commercial and delivery risks within tender opportunities.
• Supporting pre-contract handovers and providing cost information to the project delivery team.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market rates, material costs, subcontractor pricing and developments within the civil engineering sector.
• Working collaboratively with project managers, engineers, procurement and commercial teams.
• Supporting the Bid Manager with departmental improvements, processes and initiatives.
• Contributing to the development of winning tender strategies and supporting wider business growth.

What you will need:

• Proven experience working in a Senior Estimator / Estimator role within civil engineering or infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering project delivery and tendering processes.
• Experience estimating civil infrastructure, utilities, water or wastewater projects would be highly advantageous.
• Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Experience engaging with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain and assess competitive pricing.
• Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach to work.
• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline would be advantageous.
