Design Build Search are working with a civil engineering specialist involved in rail projects throughout Ireland and UK. They have an opportunity for an Engineering Surveyor based in Dublin, operating on a hybrid model with clear career progression.

You will plan, coordinate, and execute engineering surveys in rail environments, including topographical, setting-out, as-built, scanning, and monitoring activities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in rail or civil engineering surveying including control, setting-out, topographic and as-built surveys on complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong capability with modern survey instruments and survey software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specs, and BIM models for on-site survey work.
  • Experience in rail environments with understanding of railway standards and safety procedures.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with focus on data accuracy and timely outputs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with project teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to plan tasks, manage multiple surveys, and work independently in site and office.
  • Relevant qualification in Surveying or Geomatics, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering surveys largely in the rail environment.
  • Perform topographical, setting-out, as-built, scanning, and monitoring surveys.
  • Utilize GNSS, robotic total stations, precise levels, scanners, and laser levels.
  • Interpret design drawings, specifications, and BIM models; prepare survey strategies.
  • Validate and process survey data, produce drawings and reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and site teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Mentor junior surveyors and site staff; liaise with clients and stakeholders.
  • Support quality, safety, and compliance across multiple projects.

Job description

Design Build Search are working with a civil engineering specialist who are involved in rail projects throughout Ireland and UK. Due to securing projects throughout Dublin, they have an opportunity for an Engineering /Surveyor. This position will offer structured career progression.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in rail or civil engineering surveying, including control, setting-out, topographic and as-built surveys on complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical capability with modern survey instruments Total stations, GNSS, Precise Levels, Laser scanners) and associated survey software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Infinity, TBC, N4ce, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BIM models, and translate them into accurate on-site survey and setting-out activities.
  • Experience working within rail environments and understanding of railway standards, safety-critical procedures, and possession/worksite protocols is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, numeracy, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data accuracy, quality control, and timely delivery of survey outputs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project managers, engineers, designers, and site teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritize workload, manage multiple survey tasks, and work independently in both site and office settings.
  • Relevant qualification in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical
Role Description
  • This is a full-time Engineering Surveyor role based in Dublin, operating on a hybrid model.
  • The Surveyor will plan, coordinate, and execute engineering surveys which are largely based in the rail environment.
  • Within this position you will be involved in topographical, setting-out, as-built, scanning and monitoring surveys.
  • Withing this position you must have experience using the following tools GNSS (Static and RTK), Robotic "one man" Total Stations, Precise Levels, Scanners, Laser Levels.
  • Experience on rail specific measuring equipment would be advantageous, that being Tacke Measuring Gauges, Height and Stagger Gauges, Sidewear and Rail Profile gauges...
  • The candidate's skillset should also include interpreting and understanding design drawings, specifications and BIM models; preparing survey strategies and methodologies; and ensuring accurate data capture using modern survey instruments and software.
  • The role involves validating and processing survey field data, producing drawings and reports, and collaborating with engineering, design and construction teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Within this position you will contribute to project planning, mentor junior surveyors and site staff, liaise with clients and stakeholders, and support quality, safety, and compliance procedures across multiple projects.
