Salary: £68,100 - £102,100 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As Energy Markets Business Partner (Demand), you’ll play an influential role connecting Energy Markets (EM) with Energy Customer Solutions (ECS), bringing a deep understanding of the ECS commercial model, customer priorities and market opportunities into EM strategy and decision-making. Working in close partnership with senior stakeholders across EM and the wider business, you’ll act as a trusted adviser, helping shape optimisation strategies, translate complex trading and commercial decisions into clear insight, and develop thoughtful, innovative solutions that create sustainable value for our customers, Business Units and SSE Group. You’ll do this in an environment where safety, health and wellbeing are integral to how we work, collaborate and make decisions.

You Will
  • Build trusted, collaborative relationships across EM and ECS, bringing a strong understanding of ECS strategy, customers, propositions and commercial priorities into trading, optimisation and risk decisions.
  • Coordinate and prioritise ECS requirements within EM, providing clear and transparent insight into commercial decisions, trades, portfolio performance and their impact on Business Unit and Group outcomes.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and risks across areas such as customer flexibility, products, propositions, technologies and evolving market models, bringing together expertise from across EM and ECS to develop practical commercial solutions.
  • Support short and long-term optimisation, hedging and strategic decision-making, constructively bringing different perspectives together and helping senior stakeholders reach well-informed recommendations that maximise sustainable value.
  • Lead by example in creating an inclusive, safe and supportive working environment, embedding safety, health and wellbeing into decision-making, positively promoting safe behaviours and constructively speaking up where something doesn’t feel right.
You Have
  • Broad experience within energy markets, ideally gained within a commercial, trading, optimisation or risk environment, with a strong understanding of market structures, commercial mechanisms and regulatory change.
  • A deep understanding of the Energy Customer Solutions commercial model, including customer portfolios, propositions and the opportunities and risks created by changing energy markets.
  • The ability to understand complex trading, optimisation, risk and P&L decisions and translate these into clear, accessible insight for a variety of senior stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and curious approach, with experience bringing together different perspectives, building trusted relationships and developing pragmatic solutions across multiple teams.
  • Sound commercial judgement, resilience and adaptability, combined with strong attention to detail and a commitment to good governance, measured risk-taking and putting safety, health and wellbeing first.
About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
