Job summary

Kentwood Public Schools is seeking an Elementary Autism Spectrum Disorder Teacher for various ASD program locations including Brookwood, Townline, Southwood, Endeavor, and Discovery Elementary Schools. The role focuses on maximizing learning, implementing district curricula, and documenting progress for students with special needs.

You will coordinate with staff, families, and outside agencies to support individualized education plans and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certification.
  • Must meet State of Michigan Professional Development requirements.
  • Knowledge of MTSS and behavior support strategies.
  • Experience with autism-specific interventions and evidence-based practices.
  • Understanding of diverse learning styles and inclusive instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to identify learning issues and plan corrective actions.
  • Participate in PPTs and develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
  • Implement IEPs and behavior management plans for students.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and authorities as needed.
  • Differentiate instruction to engage diverse learners and cultures.
  • Direct daily work of assigned support staff and align with IEPs.
  • Provide counseling and act as liaison with families.
  • Maintain accurate records for students and program compliance.
  • Encourage parental involvement and effective communication.
  • Apply CPI strategies to manage aggression; ensure safety.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and professional conduct.
