Job summary

Sterling Engineering Ltd - Ireland & Europe is seeking an experienced Product Quality Engineer to join an innovative engineering organisation developing complex electronic products within a regulated industry. You will collaborate with R&D, Quality, Production, Test Engineering and Purchasing to drive DFMEA, analyze schematics, lead design reviews and ensure compliance throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in a Quality Engineering or R&D role within a regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of product development, design controls, and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and electronic product testing.
  • Ability to interpret electronic schematics, circuit designs, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with DFMEA, risk management, and root cause analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, firmware, or software development is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or life safety industries.
  • Exposure to statistical analysis tools for engineering test data.
  • Knowledge of NPI processes and design verification methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with R&D to ensure product designs meet quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review electronic schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware specifications to identify design-related quality risks.
  • Lead Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and support design risk management activities.
  • Drive root cause investigations for hardware and firmware-related product issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Support product verification and validation strategies during New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Analyse parametric test data and generate statistical reports to support product quality improvements.
  • Provide quality oversight for hardware and software testing activities.
  • Partner with Production, Test Engineering, and Process Quality teams to resolve technical product issues.
  • Support supplier and component approval processes alongside Purchasing and R&D.
  • Maintain product traceability and ensure compliance with internal quality systems and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of product quality processes.
  • Assist with quality audits and regulatory inspections relating to design controls.

This is a cross-functional role where you'll work closely with R&D, Quality, Production, Test Engineering, and Purchasing to ensure products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
