Shift Pattern: 8-hour shifts, 5 days out of 7
Shift Hours: 6:00am–2:00pm / 2:00pm–10:00pm / 10:00pm–6:00am
Contract: ASAP to May/June 2027 (approximately 9 months)
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Carry out preventive maintenance on automated equipment and systems.
- Review and improve existing maintenance routines and procedures.
- Diagnose and repair equipment following breakdowns or failures.
- Maintain and troubleshoot a range of automated and semi-automated equipment, including:
- Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS)
- Printing and labelling equipment
- Conveying systems
- Mechanical lifting and de-stacking equipment
- Refrigeration equipment, including fridges and freezers
- Building services and facilities equipment, including HVAC systems
- Carry out electro-mechanical repairs on high-speed, PLC-controlled plant, handling and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic control systems.
- Monitor equipment and production line performance and intervene promptly when deterioration in performance is identified.
- Use PLC programmes and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot equipment faults.
- Work independently to identify faults and determine whether immediate repair or further investigation is required.
Planned & Reactive Maintenance
- Coordinate and complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities.
- Ensure planned maintenance work is completed within required timescales.
- Manage breakdowns and support the rapid restoration of equipment to operational condition.
- Record all maintenance activities, parts used and work completed within the maintenance management system.
- Complete shift records and ensure accurate handover of outstanding issues and ongoing work to incoming personnel.
- Communicate relevant maintenance information to engineering management and the incoming shift.
Production Support
- Work closely with production teams to support operational targets.
- Monitor machine and line performance and take appropriate action to minimise downtime.
- Support continuous improvement activities relating to equipment reliability, performance and maintenance.
New Equipment & Projects
- Support the installation, commissioning and validation of new equipment.
- Work with equipment suppliers during installation, commissioning, modifications and upgrades.
- Support validation activities where required.
- Specify and recommend new equipment for installation or replacement.
- Develop and maintain engineering procedures and documentation for equipment under responsibility.
Facilities & Building Services
- Support the maintenance of facility systems and equipment within a semi-automated warehouse environment.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on relevant mechanical and electrical building services equipment.
Health & Safety
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of equipment and systems.
- Identify and address safety issues using appropriate resources and procedures.
- Ensure appropriate authorisations are obtained for external contractors and associated works/materials.
- Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
- Immediately report any safety breaches or concerns.
Systems, Documentation & Training
- Maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records.
- Update the maintenance management system with completed work, changes and parts/stores transactions.
- Complete shift documentation and handover records accurately.
- Participate fully in training, cross-skilling and development activities.
- Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and engineering procedures for relevant equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable quality systems and procedures.
General Responsibilities
- Meet agreed performance measures and maintenance KPIs.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider engineering and production teams.
- Take responsibility for identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the role and individual capabilities as required.
