Job summary

Fingleton White seeks an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Energy & Utilities team in Dublin. The role offers exposure to renewables, power studies, and collaboration across engineering and project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have an honours Electrical Engineering degree and 5+ years in power systems, with DigSilent/ETAP experience and strong communication skills. Hybrid working is available with opportunities for progression.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of postgraduate experience in electrical power systems.
  • Proficiency with DigSilent and ETAP; familiarity with Dialux and Electrical OM.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out power system studies: load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination.
  • Use Dialux, ETAP, DigSilent, and Electrical OM for design tasks.
  • Update single-line diagrams, panel schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare specifications for switchgear, transformers and protection systems.
  • Design building distribution, lighting, earthing and cabling systems.
  • Produce technical reports and presentations; participate in all project phases.
  • Evaluate sub-contractors and suppliers; estimate cost, reliability and safety factors.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to meet project goals.

Position
Electrical Power Systems Engineer – REF: 2628

We are recruiting an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Energy & Utilities team. The successful candidates will join an established team with senior support and will have the opportunity as their career progresses to acquire a broad range of skills and experience and to work across different areas of the business.

The role will provide you with essential engineering, communications and project delivery skills which are transferrable across any engineering project.

The following are examples of some of the work that the Electrical Power Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to work on:

  • Power System Studies, including load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination calculations.
  • Use of electrical software packages such as Dialux, Electrical OM, DigSilent, ETAP etc.
  • Understanding and ability to update, single line diagrams, panel schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Generate specifications for switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and other major HV and LV equipment.
  • Design of ancillary electrical services including building distribution network, lighting systems, earthing and bonding, cabling systems, equipment schedules.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations. Participate in all phases of projects, from engineering to procurement and construction.
  • Evaluation and selection of sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Estimate cost, reliability, and safety factors.
  • Generate specifications for parts.
  • Participate in all phases of projects, from engineering to procurement and construction.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders in project implementation to achieve project and company goals.

The engineer will have the opportunity within Fingleton White to be involved in the following sectors as their career progresses:

  • Combined heat & power plant
  • Renewable energy projects such as solar, BESS, bioenergy & Hydro projects
  • Water, wastewater, oil, and gas pipeline installations

The location for this role will be in Dublin office, however we will also consider applications for our Portlaoise office.

Requirements
The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Engineering degree (Honours bachelor’s degree or higher) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of postgraduate experience
  • Experience with relevant software packages such as DigSilent, and ETAP
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination calculations.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites and company offices as required
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills are required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team
