Job summary

Stryker Ireland is seeking an R&D Co-Op student to contribute to the design and testing of next‑gen orthopedic micro power tool devices. You will assist mechanical, electrical, and software engineers with prototyping, bench testing, and problem solving to help bring new medical devices to market.

You will learn procedures and work across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams, gaining hands-on experience in a regulated environment and contributing to real patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering practices and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of schematic and PCB design.
  • Familiarity with analysis tools and statistics.
  • Ability to read complex electrical layouts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office for documentation and analysis.
  • Exposure to eCAD tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad.
  • Experience with bench-testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Excellent cross-functional communication.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, assist in design, development, modification, and verification of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Assist with prototyping and bench testing.
  • Support problem solving and root cause analysis, evaluating potential solutions.
  • Work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management.
  • Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems and technology required.
  • Work on problems in limited scope while gaining experience.
  • Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.
  • Build stable relationships and contribute to the team project.

Job description

This role is part of a New Product Development team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers developing next generation micro power tool devices with the orthopedic surgical space. As an R&D Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in planning and design of medical devices for Orthopedic Surgeons to allow them to plan and perform their procedures. This role will support the R&D New Product Development Teams as they bring new medical devices products to market.

Tasks and Responsibilities may include:
  • Under supervision, assist in the design, develop, modification, and verification of mechanical and electrical components for medical devices.

  • Under supervision, conduct research and studies to support product design With supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
  • Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
  • Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience.
  • Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.
  • Build stable relationships.
  • Contribute to the project as a team member.
What you will need:
  • Currently completing an Irish or Northern Irish university qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering practices and tools, design principles within a regulated environment.
  • Basic knowledge of schematic and PCB design.
  • Basic knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods.
  • Ability to read and Interpret complex electrical layouts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with eCAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar tools used in coursework).
  • Exposure to bench-testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators) during labs or projects.
  • Excellent cross-function communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
