Job summary

Stryker Corporation in Ireland is seeking an R&D Co-Op Student to assist in designing and verifying electrical and mechanical components for next‑generation medical devices. You will prototype, bench test, and help solve problems under supervision within the New Product Development team, contributing to safe and robust medical solutions.

The role emphasizes mentorship, collaboration across departments, and exposure to regulated design processes, with flexible hours and the chance to work on

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an Irish or Northern Irish university qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering principles in a regulated environment.
  • Basic ability to read schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Familiarity with eCAD tools and bench-testing equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist design, development, and verification of electrical and mechanical components.
  • Support prototyping and bench testing activities.
  • Contribute to root-cause analysis and evaluation of solutions against requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management.
  • Learn procedures, policies, processes, and technology required, under supervision.

Job description

Work Flexibility: Onsite

This role is part of a New Product Development team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers developing next generation micro power tool devices with the orthopedic surgical space. As an R&D Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in planning and design of medical devices for Orthopedic Surgeons to allow them to plan and perform their procedures. This role will support the R&D New Product Development Teams as they bring new medical devices products to market.

Tasks and Responsibilities may include:
  • Under supervision, assist in the design, develop, modification, and verification of mechanical and electrical components for medical devices.
  • Assist with prototyping and bench testing.
  • Support problem solving, root cause analysis, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against requirements.
  • Under supervision, conduct research and studies to support product design.
  • With supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
  • Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
  • Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience.
  • Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.
  • Build stable relationships.
  • Contribute to the project as a team member.
What you will need:
  • Currently completing an Irish or Northern Irish university qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering practices and tools, design principles within a regulated environment.
  • Basic knowledge of schematic and PCB design
  • Basic knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods.
  • Ability to read and Interpret complex electrical layouts
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with eCAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar tools used in coursework).
  • Exposure to bench-testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators) during labs or projects.
  • Excellent cross-function communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.

Work Flexibility – Remote

Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.

Work Flexibility – Field-based

Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.

Work Flexibility – Onsite

Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.

Work Flexibility – Hybrid

Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
