Job summary

Carbery is seeking an Electrical & Automation Lead in Ballineen, Cork. You will own the strategy, reliability, and continuous improvement of all electrical and automation systems on site, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMI, and high-voltage equipment across dairy production lines.

You will lead capital projects, partner with operations, quality, and IT, and mentor engineers and technicians. A strong background in dairy manufacturing and regulated environments is preferred, with a focus on safety,

Qualifications

• Qualified Instrumentation or Electrical Technician (Trade Certificate)
• 10+ years' experience in electrical and automation engineering within a manufacturing environment
• Strong expertise in PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, or similar)
• Proven experience with industrial automation and high-voltage electrical systems

Responsibilities

• Own the site's Automation & Control Systems Roadmap, aligned to operational excellence and digital transformation goals.
• Set the standard for control philosophies, PLC programming, SCADA/HMI design, alarm management, and cybersecurity.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis across PLCs, SCADA/DCS, HMIs, VSDs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, generators, and high-voltage equipment.
• Lead the electrical and automation scope of capital projects - specs, vendor management, FAT/SAT, commissioning.

If you want a role where your decisions are visible, your expertise is trusted, and your work keeps a complex site running - this is it.# How You Will Contribute* Own the site's Automation & Control Systems Roadmap, aligned to our operational excellence and digital transformation goals.* Set the standard for control philosophies, PLC programming, SCADA/HMI design, alarm management, and cybersecurity.* Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis across PLCs, SCADA/DCS, HMIs, VSDs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, generators, and high-voltage equipment.* Support automation across raw milk reception, cheese and mozzarella manufacture, filtration, spray drying, and utilities (boilers, CHP, refrigeration, water treatment).* Lead the electrical and automation scope of capital projects - specs, vendor management, FAT/SAT, commissioning.* Drive improvements in safety, quality, reliability, throughput, yield, and energy efficiency.* Keep engineering documentation current - P&IDs, FDS, electrical schematics, software backups.* Ensure systems meet food safety and regulatory standards, including CCP validation and data integrity.* Build strong working relationships with automation suppliers, OEMs, integrators, and internal teams across Operations, Quality, Engineering, and IT.* Mentor and coach engineers, electricians, and technicians.**Essential Requirements*** Qualified Instrumentation or Electrical Technician (Trade Certificate).* 10+ years' experience in electrical and automation engineering within a manufacturing environment.* Strong expertise in PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, or similar).* Proven experience with industrial automation and high-voltage electrical systems.**Desirable Requirements*** Experience in dairy or food & beverage manufacturing.* Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or equivalent experience.* Experience leading capital project commissioning and start-up.# Our Commitment to our PeopleWe are a diverse and growing workforce of over 1,000 people across eight countries globally.
