Job summary

APC Ltd, based in Dublin, Ireland, invites applications for an EHS Specialist 3. You will lead and manage EHS programmes, drive performance and culture across the organisation, and mentor EHS Officers while ensuring regulatory compliance across Environmental, Health, Safety and Governance pillars.

The role requires 3–5 years’ EHS experience in pharma/biotech settings, professional certification (NEBOSH/IOSH preferred), and strong data analysis and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Life Sciences, Environmental Science or Occupational Health & Safety.
  • NEBOSH / IOSH certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage assigned EHS programmes and drive EHS performance.
  • Establish systems to ensure compliance with legal, corporate and operational EHS requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations, CAPA, and maintain auditable EHS records.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS into projects and operations.
  • Mentor EHS Officers and participate in safety committees.

Education

Role Purpose

Lead and manage EHS programmes, drive and promote EHS performance & culture, be accountable for assigned areas and provide mentorship within EHS team and wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Policy & Risk Management

  • Lead and manage assigned EHS programmes under the direction of the Head of EHS & Sustainability.
  • Establish effective systems to ensure compliance with legal, corporate, and operational EHS requirements.
  • Conduct, review, and maintain risk assessments for assigned areas, ensuring actions are implemented and tracked.
  • Be accountable for maintaining accurate EHS documentation, systems and registers within scope of responsibility.
  • Drive preventive measures and ensure robust risk management practices are embedded across the organisation.
  • Provide expert support in area-specific programmes under your responsibility aligned to the following EHS Pillars; Environmental Safety, Compliance & Governance, Health & Wellbeing, Process Safety, General Workplace Safety, Safe Work Systems, EHS Culture & ESG

Audit Readiness & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and support internal audits, inspections, and GEMBA walks within assigned areas.
  • Ensure findings are documented, corrective actions are implemented, and progress is tracked.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable EHS records, logs, and CAPA documentation.
  • Support external audits and regulatory inspections through preparation, coordination, and documentation control.
  • Use EHS data and performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive standardisation and efficiency in EHS processes, ensuring systems remain effective and user-friendly.
  • Support cross-functional teams in implementing improvements and share learnings across the EHS function.

Collaboration & Engagement

  • Serve as the EHS point of contact for assigned business units or laboratories, ensuring close collaboration with Area Owners and Technical Operations.
  • Partner with Project Management, CMC, and Supply Chain to integrate EHS considerations into project design, execution, and operational activities.
  • Engage employees in proactive safety practices, providing guidance and feedback on risk management and procedural compliance.
  • Mentor and support EHS Officers, sharing knowledge, ensuring consistency, and promoting accountability.
  • Participate in Safety Committees and support organisational EHS awareness campaigns.
  • Build collaborative relationships across departments to strengthen EHS engagement and ownership.

External responsibilities

  • Represent the organization as a point of contact with external bodies such as:
  • External vendors, auditors, and regulatory bodies (HSA, EPA, local authorities)
  • EHS and ESG industry networks, certification bodies, and sustainability forums

EHS, Quality & Sustainability Compliance

  • Ensure the operational delivery of EHS compliance, ensuring alignment with Environmental, Health, Safety and Welfare legislation, COP, and applicable standards.
  • Be accountable for the implementation and ongoing review of EHS controls in assigned areas.
  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring accurate root cause analysis, corrective actions, and timely closure.
  • Deliver or support EHS training, inductions, and emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Maintain accurate data and reporting for EHS KPIs within your pillar(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensure all EHS systems and records are maintained, current, and audit-ready.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree level or equivalent in Life Sciences, Environmental Science, or Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Irish EHS legislation and relevant HSA/EPA requirements.

Experience

  • 3–5 years’ EHS experience in pharma, biopharma, or research settings
  • Led EHS programmes and conducted audits, risk assessments, and investigations
  • Strong knowledge of EHS systems and compliance reporting.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of EHS systems, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong data analysis and compliance reporting abilities.
