The details
What the programme covers
You'll complete two QQI Level 5 modules — Care of the Older Person and Care Skills — delivered in our own classroom by experienced trainers. The programme also covers practical care skills, Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Persons, and Infection Control.
After classroom training, you'll complete a structured induction: 1-to-1 shadowing with a qualified carer, community orientation, and mentorship from the Hibernia management team. Assignment support is built in — you won't be left to figure it out alone.
Graduates are then supported to complete the remaining six modules toward the full QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support, with a personal development plan to guide your progression.
Who this is for
You have some personal or professional experience with care — maybe a family member, maybe a previous role — and you know this is the direction you want to go. You're motivated, reliable, and ready to commit to two weeks of intensive classroom learning followed by a career you can build on.
This programme is ideal for career changers, returners to work, or anyone who's been held back by the qualification barrier.
