Corlann – West Region seeks a permanent, part-time Driver/Porter for Bruach na Mara Services in South Connemara, Co. Galway. The role involves transporting people and supporting daily activities within a community-based service.

The post is 26.5 hours per fortnight on a five-day duty roster, pensionable with a salary scale of €36,651–€45,939 pro rata per annum. Informal enquiries to Service Coordinators at 091 869790.

Qualifications

  • A full clean Driving Licence (Class D1) and CPC examinations are essential for the appointee to drive the transport that is assigned to the Service.
  • As part of the role in developing links with Irish speaking community groups willingness to learn the Irish language is a requirement of this post.

POST OF: PERMANENT PART-TIME DRIVER/PORTER

Corlann – West Region provide a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, in line with best practice both nationally and internationally. Working in partnership with each person supported by services, we aim to create opportunities for people supported by services to have ordinary life experiences and to be closely connected to family and friends. We are committed to supporting people to live a life of their choosing.

Location:

Bruach na Mara Services in South Connemara are a community based Service. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community. Our focus is to form a relationship / partnership with each individual and their family to support people to be valued citizens in their local community and to have ordinary life experiences. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our service to have valued social roles in their communities and to have the chance to form real friendships.

Staff allocation could be either within Centre based residential/day units, or in the community as Service needs.

We wish to recruit an innovative, creative, visionary person who will relish the opportunity to assist in achieving this vision. We are looking for an individual who will be flexible and adapt to the needs of particular individuals they support and are open to change.

Qualifications:

This must be produced and checked at the interview.As part of the role in developing links with Irish speaking community groups willingness to learn the Irish language is a requirement of this post.

Experience:

Applicants must have relevant minibus driving experience. Experience of working with persons with an intellectual disability would be an advantage. Experience in general maintenance provision is an advantage.

Working Hours:

26.5 hours a fortnight based on a 5 day duty roster.

Corlann’s model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery.

22 days pro rata per annum i.e. 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked

Remuneration:

Department of Health Driver (Patients Public Roads) salary scale (01/06/2026) - €36,651 x 8 increments to €45,939 pro rata per annum.

This post is permanent, part-time and pensionable

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
