Job summary

eBay in Dublin is seeking a Software Engineer – Distributed Systems to help design and build cloud-scale identity and access platforms. You will work on directory services, authorization, and policy engines, applying an AI-first approach to accelerate development and improve reliability.

You’ll join a team delivering scalable services across geographies, collaborating with Security, Platform, and Infra teams while growing your expertise in cloud-native tech and large-scale systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing backend or distributed systems.
• Experience building applications or microservices using Java, Go, Python, or similar languages.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, networking, operating systems, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with SQL, NoSQL, or other data storage technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development, Kubernetes, containers, or modern cloud platforms.
• Basic understanding of identity and authorization concepts (RBAC, ABAC, IAM, LDAP).
• Experience using AI-powered engineering tools to improve software development and productivity.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop cloud-scale directory services that manage identities and relationships across the platform.
• Build scalable APIs, microservices, and authorization services for secure, low-latency decisions.
• Contribute to policy engines supporting RBAC, ABAC, and PBAC models.
• Write high-quality, tested code using CI/CD and observability practices.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, testing, and productivity.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and improve reliability.
• Collaborate with Identity, Platform, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver secure solutions.
• Identify opportunities to automate tasks and improve developer productivity through responsible AI.
