Job summary

BDO Ireland is seeking an ambitious Audit Director to lead a diverse portfolio of clients from a central Dublin location. You will drive technical audit excellence, manage engagements end-to-end and mentor a growing audit team, while supporting growth across sectors including Retail, Not-for-Profit, Regulatory Bodies and Education.

You will provide leadership, oversee budgets and WIP, and work with Partners to shape strategy and client success in a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Qualifications

  • ACA or ACCA qualified with 6+ years' PQE in a professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISAs, IFRS and Irish GAAP.
  • Experience leading audits of varying sizes, including group audits.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness and business development capability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and ability to build long-term client relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality client delivery.

BDO Ireland is seeking an ambitious and commercially minded Audit Director to join our forward-thinking Audit Department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced audit professional looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative, high-performing environment. As a Director, you will play a key leadership role, manage a diverse portfolio of clients while you support the continued growth and success of the practice. Our client base spans a broad range of sectors such as Retail, Media, Not-for-Profit Organisations, Regulatory Bodies, and Educational Institutions, with both domestic and international engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively manage a portfolio of clients across the various sectors.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and primary relationship lead for clients, ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service.

  • Provide technical audit and accounting guidance to both clients and engagement teams.

  • Manage the financial performance of engagements, including fee negotiations, billing, cash collections and WIP recoverability.
  • Support business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities for growth within existing and prospective client relationships.
  • Participate in the preparation and delivery of pitches, proposals and tender submissions.
  • Design and deliver technical training and development programmes for audit staff.
  • Lead, coach, mentor and perform appraisals for Managers and junior team members.
  • Develop strong working relationships across the wider Audit practice and other service lines.
  • Collaborate effectively with Partners, Directors and colleagues across departments to deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of BDO's strategic objectives and values, demonstrating these in day-to-day leadership and decision-making.
  • Share knowledge, technical expertise and industry insights with colleagues to support team development.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
  • ACA or ACCA qualified with a minimum of 6+ years' post-qualified experience (PQE), ideally gained within a professional services environment.
  • Strong technical audit and accounting expertise, including extensive knowledge of ISAs, IFRS and Irish GAAP.
  • Experience leading everything from small to large, complex, audit engagements, including group audits.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with a track record of developing and managing high-performing teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness and business development capability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build long-term client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality client delivery.
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Understanding of the operational and financial aspects of managing an audit portfolio and accountability for results.
