Job summary

OpenText in Cork is seeking a Director of AI Engineering and Applied AI Platform to build and lead a high-impact Ireland-based team within our Cork Centre of Excellence. This role focuses on scalable, production-grade AI capabilities and enterprise-grade platform delivery.

You will define governance, orchestration, and reusable AI platforms, partnering with product, cloud operations, security, and architecture to deliver trusted AI solutions that drive business value.

Your Impact

As OpenText accelerates its AI transformation, Ireland is a key strategic R&D investment hub for advanced AI engineering, applied AI platforms, sovereign cloud, cybersecurity, and trusted enterprise innovation. As part of this investment, we’re looking to welcome a Director, AI Engineering and Applied AI Platform (Ireland R&D) to build and lead a high-impact AI engineering capability within our Cork Centre of Excellence. This is a highly visible, build-and-scale leadership role, central to shaping OpenText’s global AI innovation footprint.

You will be responsible for establishing and growing a best-in-class Ireland-based team focused on reusable AI platform capabilities, agentic AI systems, orchestration patterns, evaluation frameworks, and production-grade deployment standards. You will define how trusted enterprise AI is engineered, governed, and scaled across OpenText products and cloud operations. This is not a research-only role - it is about translating AI strategy into real, production-ready capability. You will partner closely with product engineering, cloud operations, security, architecture, legal, compliance, and business leaders to deliver AI solutions that are secure, scalable, and enterprise-ready.

By building reusable platforms, engineering patterns, and strong local capability, you will accelerate AI adoption, improve delivery efficiency, and enable product differentiation across the organization. You will also play a key role in strengthening Ireland as a centre of excellence for trusted enterprise AI development. This role offers broad impact across engineering, product, go-to-market teams, partners, and executive leadership, and is pivotal to advancing OpenText’s innovation agenda.

• Building & Leading AI Capability: Build and Scale a high-impact AI engineering team in Ireland, establishing Cork as a centre of excellence for enterprise AI.
• Defining & Delivering AI Platform: Own the development of reusable, production-grade AI platform capabilities that drive adoption across products and reduce duplication.
• Advancing Agentic AI & Automation: Lead the development of agentic AI solutions powering enterprise workflows, automation, and intelligent product experiences.
• Ensuring Responsible, Enterprise-Ready AI: Embed governance, evaluation, and responsible AI practices to deliver secure, compliant, and trustworthy systems.
• Driving Production Excellence: Ensure AI systems are scalable, reliable, cost-efficient, and engineered for real-world deployment.
• Championing Innovation & Partnerships: Deliver R&D outcomes (IP, patents, frameworks) and collaborate with Irish universities, research institutions, eco-system partners and industry bodies to accelerate impact.
• Delivering Business Impact: Align AI initiatives to enterprise clients’ needs and business priorities, driving measurable value, adoption, and competitive advantage.

What You Need To Succeed

• 12+ years in enterprise software, AI, platform, or cloud engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Proven track record delivering production-grade AI or software systems at scale.
• Experience building reusable platforms, frameworks, or shared engineering capabilities.
• Strong understanding of modern AI engineering (LLMs, agents, orchestration, evaluation, deployment, lifecycle management).
• Background working with enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and APIs.
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience collaborating across product, architecture, security, operations, and business stakeholders.
