Detail Engineer, Ultra Long Haul. Verizon is modernising its core networks to enable new, ground‑breaking products and technologies. We are looking for a Detail Engineer to lead the way in detail equipment engineering for various build initiatives across multiple networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer and manage multiple simultaneous projects throughout the build life cycle, resolving technical issues as they arise.
- Create detailed technical installation instructions (I‑SPECs) for new and existing technologies according to company standards.
- Include project‑specific installation details, equipment configurations, card/port assignments, power mapping, copper and fibre cable running lists, diversity requirements, floor space and rack placement, and a detailed bill of materials.
- Prepare pre‑engineering/site survey documentation and front‑door requests for installations at VzW sites.
- Ensure all work meets engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
- Interface with Centre Engineering, Field Engineering, Operations, and other implementation organisations to obtain pre‑engineering information and site‑specific data.
- Provide technical guidance on First Office Application (FOA) projects, using knowledge of existing installation configurations.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date engineering documentation across multiple systems (ICON/CND, CCP, Canvas, VENUe, etc.) for use by installation, testing, operations and other teams.
- Resolve engineering issues in coordination with internal and external organisations.
- Manage upgrades, reconfigurations, and decommissioning activities to support customer growth and generate cost savings.
- Monitor, report, and drive engineering issues to resolution while maintaining excellent communication with sponsors and team members.
- Provide timely status updates to project sponsors and management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrable excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑driven with experience in designing and implementing complex, distributed systems.
- Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working well with others and independently on projects.
- Knowledge of SONET, DWDM, long‑haul transport systems, backbone routing and switching, physical server deployments, or voice switching platforms.
- Telecoms installation experience—hands‑on or remotely directed.
- Proficiency in using AI tools to streamline technical research, documentation, and problem solving.
