Job summary

MongoDB Inc. in Dublin seeks a Software Engineer 3 to build and operate the Data Pipeline platform, blending backend development with SRE practices. You’ll ship backend improvements and troubleshoot production issues in a high‑volume telemetry environment.

You’ll design, test, and maintain backend features, contribute to medium‑sized projects, and participate in on‑call rotations, collaborating with observability teams to improve reliability and customer experience.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and time/space complexity.
• Experience with Kafka-compatible streaming platforms, Apache Flink, or comparable stream-processing technologies.
• Experience with event-driven systems, ingestion pipelines, or high-throughput data processing.
• Hands-on debugging with profiling tools and evidence-based problem solving.
• Experience designing scalable distributed services with performance and availability concerns.
• Comfortable working with Kubernetes and GitOps tooling like Argo CD or Flux.
• Ability to explain technical contributions, trade-offs, and supporting evidence.
• Experience with telemetry, metrics, logs, or observability infrastructure.
• Familiarity with service-level indicators/agreements to guide reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, test and maintain backend code and features for the Data Pipeline platform.
• Contribute to and lead medium-sized technical projects through production delivery.
• Help improve the scalability, availability, and reliability of telemetry ingestion and delivery.
• Investigate production issues using metrics, logs, and other evidence and contribute fixes.
• Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and support customer escalations.
• Collaborate with sister teams to improve the Observability user experience.
• Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
