Job summary

Abbott Nutrition Division (Cootehill, Cavan) seeks a Quality Operations Specialist to join the complaints team and ensure timely closure of product issues. You will work with cross‑functional teams to investigate complaints, coordinate product tests, and maintain accurate data in Trackwise, supporting label copy and registration when needed.

Responsibilities

• Follow Environmental, Health and Safety rules in the plant and report hazards.
• Review SOPs and test methods for assigned tasks and ensure understanding.
• Collaborate with Complaints and Investigations Co-ordinator on product testing.
• Coordinate tests for complaints and report results promptly per timelines.
• Maintain accurate data and reports in the Trackwise system.
• Support label copy and registration tasks to meet deadlines.
• Adapt to changes in GMP, EHS, Quality procedures and methods.

Abbott Nutrition Division (Cootehill, Cavan)

Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow‑on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim‑milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada. Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.

Primary Function / Goals / Objectives

• Follow all Environmental, Health and Safety Rules and Regulations in the plant.
• Report any current or potential hazards to your manager immediately.
• The Customer Service Administrator must wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) at all times for the work they are carrying out. This will protect from chemical hazards and general laboratory hazards. Appropriate controls such as fume hoods and ventilation must also be utilised as necessary. Furthermore, the appropriate SOP or test method must be consulted as required.
• This function has the responsibility for reviewing all SOP’s and test methods for any job task he/she may carry out and must ensure that he/she fully understands and adheres to the SOP/test method.
• Work closely with the Complaints and Investigations Co‑ordinator.
• Co‑ordinate appropriate tests of product associated with complaints and report results of tests in a timely manner and in line with complaint response timelines.
• Maintain appropriate reports and ensure accurate recording of data on the Trackwise system.
• Work closely with the label copy / registration functions ensuring sufficient support is given to complete necessary tasks to meet deadlines
• This Job function will change when GMP, EHS, Quality and Technical/New Equipment Procedures, SOP’s and test methods are updated.
• This list of responsibilities may change depending on plant needs and employees are expected to be adaptable and flexible were this need arises.

Major Responsibilities

• The Quality Operations Specialist will work with the complaints team ensuring complaints are closed within a timely manner.
• Work closely with cross functional teams in investigations associated with complaints received.
• Support Label Copy and Registration when required to ensure label copy and registration tasks are completed before due dates.

Education Required

• Degree/Diploma in Food Science/Dairy Science/Microbiology or Nutritional Food Science.

Knowledge

• Strong understanding of compliance and quality standards.
• Very good understanding of the analytical techniques & methods used.
• Very good knowledge of the plant.
• Good computer skills.
• Very good interpersonal skills.

Accountability / Scope

• Complaint recording and testing of retained cans is a critical function which confirms complaints made by customer. A timely response to complaints is important and does involve quick and accurate feedback.
