Job summary

PhD-Jobs.NET invites a Consultant Microbiologist to join our clinical microbiology and infectious disease services across acute and community settings. The post holder will lead interpretation of microbiology data, contribute to IPC programmes, and drive antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.

You will supervise laboratory services, help develop policies and guidelines, provide CPD teaching to staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Specialist registration (or eligibility) on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Microbiology.
• Proven experience in clinical microbiology, infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship.
• Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical microbiology advice to medical, surgical, and community teams.
• Supervise diagnostic microbiology laboratory services and ensure QA.
• Lead IPC programmes and outbreak investigation.
• Audit antimicrobial use and update guidelines.
• Provide teaching and CPD activities.
• Participate in departmental management and reporting.
