As a Consultant D365 Functional Business Analyst at Codec, you will serve as a key advisor to our clients, bridging the gap between their business needs and the capabilities of Dynamics 365. You will work closely with clients to understand their processes, design efficient solutions, and ensure successful implementation and adoption.

Fundamentally, this job involves taking overall responsibility for eliciting, understanding and translating requirements and mapping them to the Microsoft Business Application technologies we use to deliver them. You have experience within rapid prototyping, especially within Microsoft D365 - where you are comfortable creating working interactive prototypes inside the products we have sold.

We’re not looking for somebody to create a large requirement document and throw it over the fence to our developers to struggle with. We’re not looking for someone who is unwilling to learn new technologies or ways of working. It might suit you if you are an experienced Analyst looking for a new challenge or are a contractor who is considering moving into a stable, high profile permanent role in a successful, accomplished yet growing team. Our Team consists of 20 Hybrid Functional/Business Analysts, who have a wide range of experience at a range of levels from graduates to Senior Principal.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Lead Rapid Prototyping and prescribe solutions
• Review tender requirements, proposals, statements of work and existing discovery material to understand commitments, constraints and scope boundaries.
• Facilitate workshops with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to establish problems, desired outcomes, priorities and success measures. Map current and future processes, user journeys, business rules, exceptions and operational needs.
• Work with the solution architect or technical lead to shape a credible solution direction before detailed workshops.
• Identify gaps, assumptions, dependencies and scope questions early, recording decisions and escalating unresolved issues.
• Make the solution tangible
• Prepare and lead prototype-led workshops using D365, Power Apps, wireframes or other suitable visual tools when a working prototype is not feasible.
• Demonstrate proposed processes and user experiences, helping stakeholders make informed decisions.
• Assess requirements against standard functionality, configuration, customisation and integration options.
• Define functional behaviour, including forms, views, workflows, validation, permissions and exception handling and contribute to conceptual data models, entity relationship diagrams and data dictionaries, with technical validation.
• Capture reporting, migration, integration and non-functional requirements with the relevant specialists.
• Own AI-assisted requirements development
• Consolidate validated discovery findings into features covering business need, outcomes, scope, personas, rules, dependencies, assumptions and acceptance expectations.
• Use structured prompts and approved AI tools to summarise inputs, identify gaps and generate candidate user stories and acceptance criteria and apply a generate–critique–refine process to improve clarity, completeness, platform fit and testability.
• Challenge AI outputs against source evidence, stakeholder intent and verified platform behaviour.
• Produce stories that meet INVEST principles: independent, negotiable, valuable, estimable, small and testable and ensure stories express the user need and business value, with clear assumptions and measurable acceptance criteria.
• Use client and project information in line with approved data handling practices.
• Maintain scope, approval and traceability
• Maintain Azure DevOps as the authoritative delivery backlog, with clear links between features, stories, supporting evidence, tasks and tests.
• Lead requirements reviews and obtain formal user-story sign-off in line with Codec’s delivery approach.
• Keep prototypes, feature definitions and the approved backlog aligned as understanding develops.
• Distinguish refinement within agreed scope from changes requiring impact assessment and approval.
• Work with the project manager and technical lead to explain the delivery and commercial implications of proposed changes.
• Support delivery and acceptance
• Facilitate backlog refinement and support team estimation with clear, sufficiently developed requirements.
• Resolve functional questions during delivery and maintain a shared understanding across business and technical teams.
• Partner with QA to ensure acceptance criteria support meaningful test coverage, including exceptions, permissions and data integrity.
• Lead or support show-and-tell sessions, user acceptance testing and feedback reviews.
• Identify changes to business processes and user responsibilities, working with change and adoption colleagues where required.
• Contribute reusable AI prompts, templates, examples and lessons learned to improve the practice.
