Job summary

St James's Hospital invites applications for a Registered Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Clinical Virology. The post requires expertise in virology care, post-registration qualifications, and leadership within an MDT.

The CNS will manage direct and indirect care for adults with HIV, HCV/HBV, or coinfection, and will lead hepatitis clinics. The role emphasizes education, audits, evidence-based practice, and patient-centred care in line with NCNM/NCM 2008 frameworks.

Qualifications

Be registered with NMBI or eligible for registration.
Be registered in the division on the NMBI Register for which the application is being made.
Minimum 1 year post-registration full-time experience.
Minimum 1 year experience in virology care.
Post-registration programme verified by QQI/NFQ Level 9 or higher (60 ECTS or above).
CPD relevant to the specialist area.
Ability to practice safely within the scope of practice.
Demonstrated leadership, management and administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

Deliver specialist nursing care for HIV, Hepatitis C/B patients and co-infections.
Carry out comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, spiritual).
Develop and implement care plans with the MDT and patient/family.
Monitor and adjust care plans based on patient response and guidelines.
Coordinate investigations, treatments and follow-up with MDT.
Provide education, counselling and self-management guidance to patients and carers.
Lead nurse-led Hepatitis clinics with MDT input.
Promote health-promotion priorities for patients and carers.
