Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Civil/Structural Design Engineer with a minimum of three years’ post-graduate experience to join our growing Design Office team. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of large-scale civil infrastructure projects across the water, wastewater, energy and utilities sectors, providing civil, geotechnical and structural design solutions from concept through to construction.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure schemes in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, developing innovative, cost-effective and buildable engineering solutions while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Engineering
- Undertake detailed civil, structural and geotechnical design for utility infrastructure projects.
- Produce engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design drawings.
- Develop designs for:
- Reinforced concrete structures.
- Buried structures and chambers.
- Retaining walls and earth retaining systems.
- Foundations, piling and geotechnical solutions.
- Pipelines, pressure mains and gravity sewers.
- Water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.
- Temporary works and construction support systems where required.
- Carry out structural analysis and design in accordance with relevant Eurocodes and industry standards.
- Perform geotechnical assessments including foundation design, slope stability assessments and earthworks design.
- Review and interpret geotechnical investigation reports and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
Project Delivery
- Support projects through all design stages from feasibility and concept design to detailed design and construction support.
- Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, electrical and construction personnel.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, subcontractors and external consultants.
- Attend design review meetings and contribute to value engineering initiatives.
- Ensure design outputs are delivered in line with programme, budget and quality requirements.
Technical Governance
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including:
- Eurocodes.
- Irish and UK National Annexes.
- Industry utility specifications.
- Health and Safety legislation.
- Participate in design risk assessments and constructability reviews.
- Prepare and review Design Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with the Construction Regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of engineering standards and best practices.
Essential
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Level 8 or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in civil infrastructure design.
- Experience delivering projects within the utility, water, wastewater or energy sectors.
- Practical experience in the preparation of detailed geotechnical and structural design calculations.
- Proficiency in design software such as:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- Scia Engineer FEA
- CADS Geotechnical
- Experience with Plaxis would be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and current Irish/UK design standards.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports and design documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Full driving licence, where required for the role.
Desirable
- Experience working for a civil engineering contractor or design-build contractor.
- Experience with BIM processes and common data environments.
- Progression towards chartership with Engineers Ireland or ICE.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment infrastructure design.
- Experience of temporary works design and construction methodologies.

Salary: €55,000–€65,000 per annum, depending on suitability, skills and relevant experience.
