Ward Personnel is recruiting a Civil Engineer – Transmission & Distribution for a leading engineering contractor in Ireland. The role focuses on coordinating civil works for substations and renewable energy projects, ensuring alignment with electrical design and grid connection requirements.

You will support chartered engineer status, contribute to design reviews, and work within a multidisciplinary team on major energy and infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 3–5+ years’ site-based civil engineering experience.
• Experience in renewable energy, power, utilities or electrical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Report to Project Manager on progress, risks and technical issues.
• Review civil drawings, specs and design documentation.
• Coordinate civil works for 38kV, 110kV and 220kV substations.
• Work with electrical designers to align civil and electrical works.
• Assist with Civil & Structural drawings using 2D and 3D design software.
• Maintain civil design logs and project records.
• Assist with tendering and pre-construction activities.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and quality.

The Role

Ward Personnel is currently recruiting an experienced Civil Engineer – Transmission & Distribution on behalf of a leading engineering contractor delivering major energy and infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineer with experience in substations, renewable energy, grid connections or BESS projects to join a highly regarded engineering organisation with a strong pipeline of projects.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the civil engineering elements of projects, working closely with electrical engineers, designers, subcontractors and the wider construction team.

The position offers excellent long-term career progression, exposure to technically challenging projects and support towards achieving Chartered Engineer status.

Key Responsibilities

• Report to the Project Manager on project progress, risks and technical issues.
• Review and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation.
• Review supplier and subcontractor information to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate civil works associated with 38kV, 110kV and 220kV substations.
• Work closely with electrical designers to ensure civil works accommodate electrical equipment and infrastructure requirements.
• Coordinate civil works associated with grid connections, BESS, wind and solar projects.
• Manage technical submittals, RFIs, reports, trackers and design documentation.
• Review designs and identify potential scope gaps, clashes and constructability issues.
• Coordinate, manage and audit civil engineering subcontractors.
• Assist with Civil & Structural drawings using 2D and 3D design software.
• Provide input into BIM coordination requirements where required.
• Maintain civil design logs and project records.
• Assist with tendering and pre-construction activities.
• Conduct site inspections and walkdowns to ensure works comply with drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
• Work closely with the wider project team to resolve technical and construction issues.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar site-based civil engineering or construction role.
• Previous experience working on renewable energy, power, utilities or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Experience with some or all of the following would be highly desirable:
  • 38kV / 110kV / 220kV substations
  • BESS – Battery Energy Storage Systems
  • Grid connections
  • Wind farm projects
  • Solar farm projects
  • Substation construction
  • Earthworks and groundworks
  • Cut and fill operations
  • Excavations
  • Road openings
  • Underground services and utilities
• Good understanding of the interface between civil and electrical engineering works.
• Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and technical specifications.
• Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, subcontractors, designers and clients.
• Ability to manage priorities and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
