Job description

We are seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join a growing pre-construction team in Dublin, supporting the delivery of major data centre, mission-critical and advanced technology projects.

The role will focus on reviewing and optimising civil and structural designs to ensure they are practical, cost-effective and suitable for construction. Working closely with design consultants, project management, construction teams and specialist subcontractors, you will contribute to buildability assessments, construction methodologies, value engineering and tender preparation.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical engineering knowledge with a practical understanding of construction and pre-construction delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review civil and structural designs to assess technical compliance, buildability and alignment with project requirements.
• Identify opportunities to optimise designs, improve construction efficiency and reduce costs through value engineering.
• Evaluate construction methodologies and develop practical, efficient construction strategies.
• Review drainage, water infrastructure, power infrastructure and utility networks.
• Coordinate with design consultants, project managers, construction teams and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and minimise design conflicts.
• Review subcontractor design packages, technical submissions and proposed construction solutions.
• Provide technical input into tender preparation, including scope assessments, design reviews and construction methodology development.
• Identify design risks, programme constraints and buildability challenges before projects move to site.
• Prepare and review technical documentation, ensuring proposed solutions comply with relevant standards, regulations and project specifications.
• Support multidisciplinary teams throughout the pre-construction phase to facilitate effective project planning and delivery.

Key Requirements:

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline, with a Master's degree or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in civil and/or structural engineering within the construction or engineering industry.
• Strong knowledge of civil and structural design, including drainage, water infrastructure, power infrastructure and utilities.
• Proven understanding of buildability, construction methodologies, design coordination and value engineering.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, reviewing technical documentation and developing practical design solutions.
• Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams.
• Contractor-side or pre-construction engineering experience, including tender support and subcontractor package reviews.
• Experience delivering data centre, mission-critical or advanced technology projects.
• Knowledge of data centre cooling infrastructure and associated civil and utility requirements.
