Job summary

Horizons - Cope Foundation in Cork Communities invites applications for Care Assistants based in An Tuath Nua, Montenotte, Cork. You will support people with intellectual disability and autism to live independent, fulfilling lives through social skills, literacy, and community participation.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will follow person-centred plans, adjust activities to needs, and promote wellbeing. The role is 39 hours per week with a flexible approach.

Qualifications

  • Minimum QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare/Intellectual Disability (all 8 modules completed).
  • Understanding of current legislation (ADMA, UNCRPD).
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
  • Creative thinking, person-centered and adaptable.
  • IT skills and report writing experience.
  • Valid work permission to reside in Ireland.
  • Full clean driving license is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Promote independence through programmes such as social skills training, computer literacy and community integration.
  • Work as part of a team to support people through person-centred approaches.

Care Assistants

An Tuath Nua, Montenotte, Cork City

Applications are invited for the above positions to be based in An Tuath Nua, Montenotte, Cork. An Tuath Nua is a day service for young adults with an intellectual disability and autism.

Successful candidates will work as part of a team to promote independence in the lives of the people we support through a variety of programmes. These include social skills training, computer literacy, community integration, personal care programs, sensory development, and numeracy and literacy programs, each adapted to the service users’ level of need.

An Tuath Nua strives to be as person centred as possible and aim to assist in the holistic development of each individual.

Salary: The 13-point salary scale for the post as of 01/06/2026.

Pease note that successful candidates will commence on point 1 of the Care Assistant scale unless they have previous service directly with the HSE or a Section 38 agency in which case relevant service may be taken into account for salary placement.

Location

Montenotte Area (this is subject to change based on the operational needs of the service)

Hours of Work

39 hours per week.

In line with our growing services Horizons is looking to recruit Care Assistants in our An Tuath Nua to support people with an intellectual disability and/or autism to flourish and lead a life of their choosing. This is a real opportunity to support people to reach their dreams, hopes, and wishes every day.

The positions require a high degree of flexibility and motivation.

The team members will work closely with individuals’ circles of support and their local community in order to develop and progress opportunities for them. A commitment to a person centred, citizen based, and social model of support is required.

Applicants must possess the competencies and skills appropriate to working with persons with an intellectual disability.

Note: Shortlisting will be based on the information provided on the application form.

Essential Criteria for Applicants:

  • A relevant qualification: minimum QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare/Intellectual Disability (all 8 modules completed as per QQI requirements).

  • Valid work permission and eligibility to work and reside in Ireland at the time of application.
  • A full clean driving license is essential.

  • Experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability and additional needs such as autism or physical and medical condition is desirable.
